Songs students bring you

The song from a film, the piece a friend played at a recital, the tune from a game. There is often no published arrangement, or the published one is nothing like the recording. Upload the recording and you have a starting point in minutes instead of an evening.

Make it playable

  • Move it to an easier key. Five flats to none in one click, free. See changing the key.
  • Simplify it in MuseScore. Download the MusicXML, open it in MuseScore (free), and thin the left hand or drop the octaves. How to open MusicXML in MuseScore.
  • Check the grey notes first. Notes the machine was unsure of are printed in grey. Those are the ones to compare against the recording before you hand the sheet over.

Help students practise

Each score comes with a MIDI file of the performance. Students can slow it down, loop a bar or load it into a practice app that shows falling notes.

For a busy studio

The Studio pack is 600 minutes for $59, about ten cents a minute. Minutes never expire, so a slow term costs nothing, and there is no subscription to remember to cancel.

A word on copyright

Arranging a song for a student's private study is a common use. Selling arrangements of copyrighted songs, or printing them for a recital programme, generally needs the publisher's permission. Public domain repertoire is free to use any way you like. See copyright.
